Patience

Through this Cancer/Chemo journey God has been teaching me so much! I am so grateful! I have certainly learned that we are called patients because we must be clothed in patience. Patience is a virtue that is both a gift and a grinding on the forge of God.

BUT… this Sunday we are going to consider the patience of God! Dozens of Scriptures proclaim His patience. He is slow to anger, full of mercy, desiring to be gracious to us. We are going to focus in on 2 Peter 8-10. Verse 9 says “He is patient toward YOU, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

Cool thing: Patience is not just the ability to passively wait. The Biblical understanding, that is even clearer in the Greek Word translated patience is that it is intentional, active and involves investment. It is a choice that requires an act of the will: the very will of God! It is because He is not WILLING that any should perish! I love it that our awesome God is long-suffering, slow to anger, full of mercy… gracious toward us! WOW!

But here’s the kicker: As those who belong to Him, He has empowered us by the Holy Spirit to be patient like He is. It is a fruit of the Spirit, and a mark of true Bible Love. (Love is PATIENT AND KIND).

So as those who are recipients of the mercy of a patient God, how about if we be willing to be dispensers of that same patience and forbearance for one another… and for a lost world… so that kindness will draw people to repentance!

Can hardly wait until Sunday! But I will be patient!
